Efrain Ortiz Chavez

Efrain Ortiz Chavez was born on small rural ranch in Zacatecas, Mexico. He is a father who lives in San Jose, and like many immigrants from his generation, he was the first of his family to attend college. He graduated from San Jose State University and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology-concentrating his academics in criminology. His professional and personal experiences with community based organizations, local civic leaders and tribal government underscores the importance he places on solutions for simple and complex social issues. The Silicon Vallley Education Foundation, Stepping Stones initiative has bolstered his understanding about the importance of empowering families and communities around education and youth development. Efrain is completing a California teacher credential certification program at National Hispanic University. He awaits the opportunity to effectively educate and motivate a student's prowess for successful learning. Efrain volunteers and is a board member of the Mosquitos East Side Action Club for the disabled, Ripon, California; Mono Lake Committee member, Lee Vining, California; and lifelong member of the 500 Mile American Indian Spiritual Marathon. His interests include family time, reading, and exercise.
