I have worked for the Silicon Valley Education Foundation for over a year and prior to that I was a housing specialist for EHC LifeBuilders. I also worked as a child advocate for Child Quest International. These two previous jobs allowed me to bring something to the table but also enabled me to learn what SJEF provides for the community.
At Child Quest International I co authored a law that is now used in all courts throughout California. Family Code 3048 is a preventive measure to stop child abduction. The process gave me confidence to be heard and speak in front of crowds. I also was an advocate for children that were abused or exploited. This experience has given me confidence to support families in need, and to be able to think of ways to make our clients self-sufficient.
At EHC LifeBuilders, I was responsible for housing chronically mental ill veterans in the community. I was able to negotiate with landlords. The program was one of the highly successful and respected programs recognized by the Department of Veterans Affairs. I worked on several projects that the city contracted me for. I was required to house dislocated families coming from the areas that were devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I also assisted in housing families that lost everything to recent apartment fires.
Now that I am working for Silicon Valley Education Foundation, I see that they envision a positive future for families and their children. Working in tandem, we can bring innovative ideas to better our communities, enrich our children’s learning experience and provide activities that allow the children to learn while interacting with their parents.
I look forward to bringing new ideas to the office and am eager to hear what my collogues also to help the clients in need. I am fortunate that my previous jobs have allowed me to be well informed on federal statues that benefit our clients. Furthermore, I gained a considerable amount of knowledge on how to work with the social services in this county. My experiences have also enabled me to work well with collaboratives that have the same vision.
