Title: Innovation Manager
Salary: $50K to $60K (Benefits Package)
Overview of Center of Innovation:
The mission of Silicon Valley Education Foundation's Center for Innovation is to bridge the technology gap between San Jose students, teachers and parents with corporations of Silicon Valley. Through a systematic process of "digital" immersion, school systems will learn to integrate technology in everyday standards-based curriculum. It will serve as a critical component for the future growth of academic courses such as Math, Language Arts, Science, and workforce development.
The Innovation Manager will develop relationships with schools, superintendents, principals, teachers, parents and students to market the Center of Innovation. These relationships will be used to develop opportunities resulting in conducting a needs assessment, testing technology in focus groups and providing the client with online and offline products and services that will inspire student success. The Innovation Manager will be a leader in introducing and advocating the best solutions that will emerge in a market driven format based on results.
Essential Duties:
- Develop overall strategy to assess the greatest needs of the education community and continue to have a pulse on this need and work with Innovation Specialist speculating to develop technology solutions to the identified need.
- Develop and maintain proactive and positive relationships with teachers, schools, principals, and superintendents.
- Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree required and minimum of two years of professional experience
- At least two years of professional experience in working in the field of education.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate small and large groups and assess needs and evaluate outcomes.
- Knowledge and interest in exploration of technology as it relates to education.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills in a customer service oriented setting.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Valid CA driver’s license, fingerprinting and background check, as required by SVEF
- Able to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.

Title: Innovation Specialist – Open Source
Salary: $60K to $66K (Benefits Package)
Overview of Center of Innovation:
The mission of Silicon Valley Education Foundation's Center for Innovation is to bridge the technology gap between San Jose students, teachers and parents with corporations of Silicon Valley. Through a systematic process of "digital" immersion, school systems will learn to integrate technology using open source software in everyday standards-based curriculum. It will serve as a critical component for the future growth of academic courses such as Math, Language Arts, Science, and workforce development. The Innovation Manager will work with teachers, students and school systems to identify their needs in the classroom. Based on this data, the Innovation Specialist will develop technological solutions using open source software by recruiting volunteers for development and gaining working knowledge of the over 50,000 education related open source tools that are available.
The Innovation Specialist will be the technology liaison for Silicon Valley ’s educational community and find the solutions “that fly.” These online resources will be evaluated for need, effectiveness and usability. If applicable, these programs will be implemented in the schools, providing schools, teachers, parents and students improved access to the best learning and management web based tools to enhance their learning experience. These programs will help provide a more accurate assessment of a student’s abilities as well as provide teachers with better tools to teach. The Innovation Specialist will also work with a team to manage the development of these tools to be localized and functional within San Jose’s educational needs and California based standards.
Essential Duties:
- Tap into an ever-growing resource on the web of open source software, which boast of over 50,000 open source educational programs
- Work with the Innovation Manager to develop technological solutions using open source software
- Assess and determine greatest identified needs in education and explore the best open source solutions to address them
- Work with advisory groups in education and technology to further identify needs
- Develop and implement solutions to address the currents challenges faced in the education community
- Other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree required in either Computer Information Systems, Computer Science Engineering or related field.
- At least two years of professional experience in sales engineering or management consulting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of programming concepts, project management, and systems design.
- Knowledge and interest in exploration of technology, software and hardware.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills in a customer service oriented setting.
- Valid CA driver’s license, fingerprinting and background check, as required by SVEF.
- Able to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.

Internship Opportunities
Title: Family Partner Intern
Salary: Unpaid
Job Description:
Interns work with Family Partners to assist families with children prenatal through five years of age in the San Jose Unified or Franklin McKinley school districts of San Jose. Family Partners work directly with families to remove barriers outside of the classroom that affect a child’s academic success in the classroom. Interns will work with a Family Partner on a weekly basis to experience duties such as: contacting service providers, home visitations, developing family success plans, data entry, and following up on referral sources.
Interns must be culturally competent and sensitive to work with the diversity of our clients. Our client population includes families from the court system, social services, preschools and the surrounding community. Interns must be able to work in a fast-paced, professional and multi-ethnic workplace.
Essential Duties
- Develop and maintain trusting relationships with diverse community members
- Build and coordinate comprehensive child development plans with Family Partner
- Assist in identification of the needs of the child and family
- Assist scheduling and facilitating necessary appointments with family
- Develop relationships with service providers and learn processes in obtaining their services
- Data collection and evaluation of family progress, success and service delivery
- Assist in marketing SVEF’s services to the outside community through the website and community events
Minimum Qualifications
- Junior or Senior status, currently enrolled part/ full-time in BA/BS program
- Work minimum of 8-10 hours a week
- Social Science major preferred but not required
- Fingerprinting and background check, as required for those working with children
- Spanish, Vietnamese, or Khmer speaking preferred but not required
