I have been working for the Silicon Valley Education Foundation as an Outreach Specialist since March of 2007. Before coming to the Foundation, I worked at Health Trust for four years as a volunteer promotora. In my home-country, Chile, I was also part of a service agency called Hogar de Christo. We fed and housed the homeless, and to this day I maintain close ties with the agency. I received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Arturo Prat University, in Chile. I immigrated to the United States in 2002 and I am currently attending Mission College.
The challenges that I have encountered in my life has given me strength to continue my advocacy for others. They have also helped me realize that every person has their own obstacles that they must face. I identify with their problems that I too have faced, to some degree. My empathy for the challenges they face, which are even greater, drives me to help them overcome these obstacles. This realization has allowed me to become more sensitized to social problems.
I enjoy serving the community, especially the Seven Trees community, because I have established very close relationships with the people here. I would like to continue applying what I have learned in the Seven Trees Community to working in other communities. I am resolved to maintain my connections that I have made here over the past years.
