Will today’s high school students be ready for the next big wave of technological innovation in the biological sciences? Stacey Rader’s Prospect High School students will be because of a grant from the Silicon Valley Education Foundation. Stacey will use her grant to purchase a high power microscope with a camera attachment so that her students will be able to study and identify bacteria genera. Stacey notes that, “This project gives students an opportunity to learn laboratory skills that can be used in the workplace. Our biotechnology companies need employees that are trained to perform these type of everyday skills and the more often students are exposed to high quality equipment and specialized lab skills, the better prepared they are for the workplace and post-secondary education in laboratory science.”
