Is textbook learning enough for 3rd graders in the life sciences? Andralee Roberts of Valle Vista School doesn’t think so. She will take her class to the Monterey Bay Aquarium thanks to a grant from the Silicon Valley Education Foundation where students will extend what they learned in class and from their textbooks into real life, hands on experiences with the denizens of the deep. Andralee says, “Students, for the most part, love animals. By going to the aquarium, they will be able to witness and fall in love with a life that they don’t see regularly. Sharks, otters, puffer fish and penguins are not the typical San Jose residents. |
