D. John Miller is the founder and chief executive officer of DJM Capital Partners, Inc.,the company he started in 1992. In the 19 years since, his sharp entrepreneurial instincts, impeccable market timing and real estate investments acumen have grown the company in excess of $1 billion dollars in assets and produced extraordinary returns for partners and clients. Miller has been in commercial real estate for nearly 30 years as a broker, investor, manager and developer, with expertise covering all product and market types. He began his career as a broker with Cornish & Carey Commercial Real Estate in Santa Clara, California, specializing in income property.
Prior to starting DJM, Miller was a principal with the commercial real estate firm of MacMillan, Moore and Buchanan, Inc. in San Jose, California, where he was responsible for management, mortgage banking, brokerage and investor relations. While at the firm, Miller was general partner and asset manager of a partnership portfolio of income properties valued in excess of $50 million, and he successfully brokered more than $300 million of investment sales, garnering the title of “Broker of the Year” in 1986 by the Association of South Bay Brokers and the San Jose Chamber of Commerce.
Miller made the decision to form DJM Capital Partners, Inc. in the early 90s to participate as a broker and principal in the massive liquidation of commercial real estate in the United States, resulting from the savings and loan crisis of the time. From 1993 through 1995, he acquired over $75 million of bank-owned apartment and retail properties in California, subsequently selling the portfolio over a period at a significant return.
Since DJM’s initial, timely investment success, Miller has continued to apply smart acquisition strategy and promote an aggressive asset management program focused on adding value through property renovation/ retrofit, re-leasing, change of use and financing. This program, implemented for a growing portfolio of properties held by DJM’s various private equity funds, continues to generate attractive returns and prove increasingly lucrative for partners and clients.
Miller lives in Los Gatos and is a member of the Association of Silicon Valley Brokers, the Commonwealth Club of California, the California Association of Realtors, the Tri-County Apartment Association, the Board of Directors, UC Berkeley/South Bay Cal Business Alumni, and the Urban Land Institute. He is a California licensed real estate broker and holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated cum laude.
