Elevate [Math] 2019

Throughout the summer, students will experience a four component curriculum to prepare them for their next math class:

Elevate [Math] hires credentialed teachers from Silicon Valley districts, and has developed a math curriculum that is designed to frontload the material students will see in their upcoming math class. Teachers also engage students in a growth mindset curriculum designed to challenge students perceptions about math and what they are capable of achieving. A STEM Presenter may attend one or more classes and share their experience as a working professional in the fields of science, technology, engineering, or math within the Silicon Valley. Each class will also learn about the journey to college through weekly lessons, and work with a College Mentor. In 2018, 91% of our students reported that they are more motivated to go to college as a result of Elevate [Math].

WHO?

Rising 3rd – 10th grade students who are selected by their district, based on their previous year’s SBAC/CAASPP assessment or teacher recommendation, are invited to enroll for our summer 2019 Elevate [Math] program.

If you are unsure if your student is eligible, please speak to your school district.

WHEN AND WHERE?

Elementary and Middle School classes run for 19 days, and High School for 24 days. Elevate [Math] classes typically start mid-June and run through mid-July. Each district selects its own program dates, times, and location.

Hear from our 2018 Students

Elevate [Math] 7 Student: I signed up for this class because I wasn’t such a good math student and wanted to get better. And I did. I like working in groups because we all help each other. By the time I get into 7th grade I want to feel really prepared, like I know things already. When I grow up I want to be a pharmacist or a nurse, and I know I need to be good in math to do those jobs.

Elevate [Math] 9 Student: I was a terrible math student and I hated math. I didn’t understand a lot of the stuff. In my 8th grade class, the teacher couldn’t take the time to answer questions because the class was so big. But in this class, Mrs. Halstead takes time to help us. It makes all the difference. I really like this class and I like math now. The class has made me want to work hard to go to college.

Elevate [Math] 7 Student: I really like this (Elevate [Math]) class because it’s fun. The teacher makes it fun, and if you don’t understand something, he’s always there to make sure you do. I’m taking the class because I want to get ahead, to be smarter in math. This class helped me a lot. I think I know enough now so I can help other kids. I want to be an engineer when I grow up.
