[Computer Science] Innovate Teaching Assistant

POSITION SUMMARY

Since 2008, Silicon Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) has partnered with local school districts to deliver impactful educational programs. Our mission at SVEF is To deliver and advocate for equitable STEM education that inspires and prepares students for college and careers. [Computer Science] Innovate ([CS]I) is designed for rising 6th-10th graders, equipping them with essential computer science and design-thinking skills thorough weekly hands-on projects. Our curriculum is developed by Microsoft and curated by our expert team. Join us as a Teaching Assistant to help bring this program to life.

LOCATION & WORK SCHEDULE

Classes will be held in person in the Greater Bay Area and determined based on the best fit for the applicants' needs and availability. We partner with school districts as far north as San Francisco and San Leandro and south as Soledad and Gilroy. Most heavily concentrated in the San Jose area.


Program dates for the 19-day (7th-8th grade) and 24-day (9th-10th grade) sessions are customized by each partner school district, commencing in mid-June and concluding between July and August, with flexibility based on district preferences. These will be finalized before PL in mid-May Sessions typically span 4-5 hours per day over 5 days a week, with exact scheduling tailored to the specific needs of each district.



MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support project-based computer science and block code instruction in 1-3 classrooms

  • Assist students in navigating coding projects, problem-solving challenges, and building understanding of computer science concepts and industry

  • Provide administrative support, such as calling parents and recording attendance

  • Reinforce classroom norms and support group discussions

  • Serve as a mentor and positive role model, engaging with students during pair-share, small group sessions and project work

  • Provide IT and tech tool support to teachers, students, and families

  • Complete additional assigned tasks to support teachers and program success

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE OF

  • High school senior, college student, or recent college graduate with an interest in working with 4th-10th graders

  • Experience in computer science and working in an academic setting preferred

  • Strong written, verbal, and digital communication skills

  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a classroom setting

  • Proof of TB test results and fingerprinting before working with students (costs reimbursed by SVEF)

  • Reliable transportation

COMPENSATION

Middle School Programs (19 days): $2,552 ($116 daily rate) (19 classroom days+ 3 training days)

High School Programs (24 days): $3,915 ($145 daily rate) (24 classroom days + 3 training days)

* Partner District program lengths may vary. Full compensation includes complete fulfillment of all PL and PLC dates, daily class commitment, out-of-class prep, and required logistics. There is no overtime and a cap of 8 working hours per day. Program length can vary upon district assignment. SVEF is committed to be in compliance with federal and state of California pay and benefit laws including minimum wage pay, benefits and breaks.
